The Department of Defense SBIR program is the largest single SBIR funder, awarding over $1.5 billion annually across Army, Navy, Air Force, DARPA, SOCOM, MDA, and other DOD components. Topics span defense technology, dual-use innovation, cybersecurity, autonomy, advanced materials, sensors, and communications. Three solicitations per year (with multiple open simultaneously). Phase I up to $250K; Phase II up to $1.7M. Successful companies often receive follow-on contracts, OTAs, and production contracts.
