Supplemental Security Income (SSI) — Monthly Cash Payments
SSI pays monthly cash benefits to people who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled and who have limited income and resources. The federal base payment is $943/month for an individual and $1,415/month for a couple (2024). Many states add a supplement on top of the federal amount. SSI also qualifies recipients for Medicaid and SNAP in most states. Many eligible people — especially elderly immigrants and people with hidden disabilities — never apply.
